Barcode Island began,
effectively, in October 1985 when Craig Steiner and his Atari 6502-based computer
system. At that time, the BBS pioneered many
innovative ideas within the Denver BBS community. The Vault BBS has existed
ever since--of course, it has evolved with time. In 1994, the BBS became one
of the newest Internet Service Providers (ISP) in Denver. In October 1992, seven years after The Vault BBS went online, Craig Steiner joined forces with three friends--Thomas Jacobs, Shawn Rene, and Ted Ott--to create a formal business partnership: Vault Information Services. Since VIS was officially founded in 1992, it has offered various products and services. As mentioned above, VIS has been an ISP serving the Denver area since mid-1994. We've offered software and networking consulting services to companies in Colorado, California, Texas, Ireland, and Mexico. Our ISP services have recently become more focused on domain hosting, web page design and development, and web page hosting. VIS also has been an avid supporter of the shareware concept, releasing a number of programs using that form of distribution.
Like virtually everyone, the owners of VIS started receiving ever increasing amounts of spam in their inbox. As a result, VIS developed and deployed PrismEmail, an anti-spam service that combines traditional keyword filters with Bayesian statistics to achieve effective spam blocking in excess of 99%. If your inbox is being flooded by spam we would encourage you to check our PrismEmail email filtering service and block spam before it reaches your inbox.
More recently, in January 1997, VIS entered the 8052 microcontroller marketplace with the 8052 Simulator for Windows. This quickly became a very popular tool in the 8052 market, and has been an important product for VIS ever since. Later, in mid-1997, VIS launched the 8052.com website. This site, dedicated exclusively to the 8052 (MCS-51) microcontroller and compatible derivatives, has been becoming more and more popular each month since it was opened. The site now receives more than 150,000 hits per month, providing information to professionals, consultants, students, and hobbiests alike. In February 2000, VIS followed-up the 8052 Simulator product with a full-featured IDE Pinnacle 52. Initial reception has been very promising and it is our hope and expectation that we will be able to build upon our success with the 8052 Simulator to propel Pinnacle 52 into wide usage. VIS has been assisting important semiconductor companies by modifying our Simulator to meet the specs of new 8052-derivative chips that are being developed by these companies. This has allowed our customers to proceed with software development and provide sales demos before the actual hardware was completed.
While VIS' partners have worked with barcodes on an "on and off" basis since 1989, one of our partners was emersed in barcode-related work upon accepting a position with a firm in 1996. Later, a consulting project in 1999 gave us renewed interest in the topic--especially when we found how little information was available in an easy-to-access and easy-to-find manner on the network. This lack of centralized information is what let us to launch the BARCODE Island site. VIS is also planning a number of barcode-related products which we will introduce to the public upon completion. We are especially interested in combining our 8052 and barcode experience to produce interesting microcontroller-based barcode projects. VIS has proven itself as a reliable partner to whom you may outsource your development projects, especially those related to the MCS-51 microcontroller and barcodes. Our intiment knowledge of the 8052, as a result of our own 8052 projects, the development of our Simulator, and the day-to-day maintenace of 8052.com allows us to provide your company with an exceptional 8052 application development service. Our years of experience with barcodes also allow us to provide outsourcing services in this area. Our Outsourcing services provide your company with the following benefits:
VIS is a relatively small company, but our small size with low overhead allows us to offer products at extremely competitive prices that the competition just can't match.
